Faruq gives a weak smile. It wasn't much - and he doubted he would be able to provide water for someone else after him - but to see that one get something so sorely needed was a small pleasure, at least.

He looked around to see if others approached, but in the meantime he cut another slice of the melon for the man.

"Do you feel any better, rafiq?"

After hesitating on what to call them for a while, he went with the male term, for now at least.

Faruq extended his hand to get the waterskin back, and used some salted water kept among his medicinal supplies to clean its mouth before putting it back, just in case, then cut three other slices of the melon. He placed one where the previous one had been, offering it to the man, then another one to the side, as if indicating that others were also welcome to eat. After cleaning his own hands with some salted water, he got the third one himself and took a bite of it as he patiently waited for the person to sate their hunger, looking around to see if anyone else came for food or treatment.

At the sight of food some of the others draw nearer but a quick and vicious snarl from the wretch causes them to back up.

The young man places yet more food on the towel to the side - some beans and other fruit, gesturing towards it and nodding...

He then looks up at the wretch again.

"Is your hunger somewhat more sated now, Sayyid? You don't have to keep the others from sating theirs as well, you know. There should be plenty for you and at least some others."

He shows the other fruit as he says that.

"I know it sounds like we can't do any better than only helping ourselves when we are in need, Sayyid... But I've been through much of that, and in time we can learn even water tastes better when it's shared with friends", he says gently, but in a serious voice.

"May I ask what it is that befell you?", he then adds. "Is it the necessity that comes from little work and no coin? Or ...is there perhaps anything else I could help with?"

With surprising speed and strength given its wretched state the figure attempts to shove Faruq aside.

(Not really an attack so let's go with opposed Strength. TN19)

Seeing the wretched person suddenly throw itself at him just at the last moment, and somewhat surprised by their strength, Faruq tries, but can't quite hold himself up.

"Sayyid!", he says, surprised and for the first time sounding a bit vexed as he gets shoved aside. "I've given you water, food, and respect. Is it too much to ask the latter in return?"
