If the Merchant Quarter is the heart of Medinaat al-Salaam then the River Quarter is the artery that through which that precious blood flows. It grows on both banks of the great river Nahr'umar and, unlike the reputation of many docks, is second only to the Merchant Quarter in terms of safety.

As the city was founded on the river and grew with it the River Quarter also holds many of the great, historic buildings of the city. While the materialists of the city long to live in the Merchant Quarter among the more common people of the city it is a point of pride to have an ancestral home in this district among the history of the city.

Once per decade Nahr'umar overflows her banks and floods much of the district but, after a millennium, the construction of the district, and the lives of those within it, are well prepared for this occurrence.
