Re: NPC Descriptions
Rakul
Origin: Unknown, the name is Invindi but is that even her original name?
Faction: Jackals
Gender: Presumed female
Location: Unknown
Known to most as 'The Mother of Rats' Rakul is never seen without, and covered in, swarms of her 'children'. Lank, oily black hair hides white clouded eyes though they can rarely be seen for hair and rats surrounding them. Despite an appearance that suggests blindness she seems to move with full awareness of her surroundings. Some whisper that she sees just fine and the clouding is but a side effect of dark magics, others say that she sees... but through the eyes of every rat in Medinaat al-Salaam. Despite the horrific image she presents her voice, while low and sibilant, is more pleasant than one would anticipate.
It is unknown exactly where she stands in the hierarchy of the Jackals - beneath the Monkey Man to be certain but likely not far below - and she often has messages or instructions for newer members of their 'family'. None can ever recall seeing her outside of the sewers but if she truly can spy through the eyes of rats then there is nowhere in the city outside of her sight.

Re: NPC Descriptions
Majdala al-Rashid
Origin: Dahabi
Faction: Caliphate Khadi
Gender: Female
Location: A lavish estate among the Houses of Dahab
For those new to Medinaat al-Salaam hearing that the Khadi are undead sorcerers might conjure images of walking corpses, shriveled and decaying flesh, and other horrific sights. In some cases that is true but, for most, the Khadi appear exactly as the day they were 'reborn' and have remained unchanged and unageing ever since.
As such, despite being almost a century and a half old, Majdala of House Rashid seems, at first glance, like a beautiful young Dahabi maiden. Her skin is flawless as if rarely seen by Lady Sun and her hair long, dark, and lustrous. The only thing that has changed, if one were to have known her back then, are her eyes. Oh they are still beautiful in shape and color but where once they shone with life and joy now they are hard and sharp as stones.
Majdala was always ambitious, hence her current state, and even among the Khadi she has continued to ascend in power and worth. Now she holds the powerful, and coveted, position as Khadi Delegate to House Menjari - seeing over their concerns and complaints... and collecting their bribes and tributes.
Though the removal of her heart has hardened Majdala and muted many positive emotions it is not impossible for her to feel happiness, joy, and satisfaction they just tend to be fleeting and obsessive when they do occur. As such, once every decade, or so some fascination or another will rise to the top and be all consuming. Given her power, wealth, and connections when she is consumed by a fascination it has the potential to shape the entire city - at least for a brief time.
Recently that obsession has been archery and now she has called for the archers of the city to gather for her entertainment in a great contest and has encouraged, and contributed to, celebrations surrounding this event. To the victor she has promised a boon and, from one of her station, such a boon is a rare and valuable thing indeed.
