Khadi

Before the coming of Hanan the Sultan decreed the laws of Medinaat Al-Salaam which were, in turn, overseen and enforced by the Caliph. To assist the Caliph in this massive undertaking a body of judges, the Qadi, was formed.

As Hanan slowly rose to power as the Immortal Caliph these Qadi were replaced, one by one, by her loyalists. Eventually only these Khadi remained and these heartless sorcerers have aided the Caliph in her tyranny ever since.

Their numbers have varied over the years as Hanan has 'gifted' others with this immortal state - or destroyed those who challenged, or simply annoyed, her. At the start of our Tale the Khadi currently number forty.
