Seasons

Two Spring months (Rabi al-Awwal, Rabi al-Thani)
Four Summer months (Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Thaniya, Rajab, Sha’ban)
Three Fall months (Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhu al-Qa’da)
Three Winter months (Dhu al-Hijja, Muharram, Safar)


Months

Muharram- This month marks the beginning of the year. The first day of the month is said to be the day that Mekhem first arrived in Medinaat al-Salaam.

Safar- This month contains the shortest day of the year. This day and the days before and after it are all days of celebration, prayer, and inner reflection.

Rabi al-Awwal (Rabi 1)- The first month of the wet season when the majority of planting is done.

Rabi al-Akhir (Rabi 2)- The second month of the wet season, used for cultivation of crops and preparing for the dry season.

Jumada al-Ula (Jumada 1)- The first month of the dry season. Most crops that can be cultivated are, and preparation for two months of little begins.

Jumada al-Thaniya (Jumada 2)- The second month of the dry season, most citizens of the Burning Sands sleep through the days and are active during the night in this month.

Rajab- The hottest month of the year. Few trade caravans travel during this month. Warfare is traditionally not done during this month, partly because no army can survive the heat for long. Citizens continue the trend of nightly activities and sleeping during the day.

Sha’ban- A traditional month for traveling abroad as the temperatures begin to go down.

Ramadan- A month of fasting during the day, to remember the Day of Wrath and do honor to Shilah. It is believed that the month of Ramadan was when the Day of Wrath occurred.

Shawwal- The harvest month. Large celebrations are held as another summer has ended successfully and the desert blooms once again.

Dhu al-Qa’da- This month is supposedly a month of truce, where no fighting is to occur. But in reality few but the most pious pay heed to the commands against warfare during this month.

Dhu al-Hijja- The last month of the year, most travel back to their homes to prepare for the new year during this month.
