Your Origin tells the group you were born and raised within whether or not you were born within the borders of a specific empire. It is the culture, beliefs, and upbringing you were raised with. It does not dictate any specific loyalties or obligations, however, and one is free to approach those as they see fit. Some may be die-hard nationalists others may not care, or perhaps even despise, those they found themselves among due to birth. Origins are often visible to others in terms of your appearance, clothing, or mannerisms. While membership in an Origin, such as the Ra'Shari, can lead to facing prejudice and stereotypes they are not outright criminalized.
Characters of a specific Origin may pick schools from that Origin.
