Aid An Origin:
You may spend 3 points to generate 1 Origin Point for any Origin. (As of right now this is a fluff metric of how well an Origin is faring within the city and the influence it holds. As a mechanical benefit for each Origin Point you earn you may purchase one Advantage that Origin earns a discount on without paying the additional 2XP for taking an Advantage post-character creation. The Advantage does not have to be purchased at the same time the Origin Point earned)
Do we get both the Origin discount and the waived penalty for post-character discount?

For example, was al-Haddar to buy Way of the Land: Medinaat al-Salaam, would he pay 1, 2 or 3 for it?

EDIT: Also, not sure about the any there. Does that mean we can buy another things from another Origin? How does this work?

Do you need to have passed a roll for a skill to increase it, or just use it in the event where you scored day/night points?

If it is your Origin, yes.

Correct.

As an example Qara is Rokugani in Origin but has married into the Dahabi - there is every reason she might want to aid either Origin within the city. The same with characters who have made friends among other Origins or are trying to make alliances.

If you aid an Origin other than your own you would be able to purchase an Advantage they normally receive a discount on without the 2XP penalty, but you do not get the Origin Discount.

So, if Qara aided the Dahabi she could purchase a Merchant Servant at 5 points instead of 7.

No, you just need to have rolled it. It still applies even if you failed.

Can you combine points into one purchase? For example if you used a skill in both day and night and wanted to raise to 3 could you spend 3 day and 3 night points?

What about on origin - if you wanted to aid your origin and buy the advantage could you spend 3 day to assist and X night to buy advantage? Or can you not use day/night points for the advantage?

A couple out there questions I suppose:

1) Would one be able to take Allies: Majdala with the Dahabi allies thing?
2) Could the Khadi be considered an origin or faction of any sort for Soraya to support?
3) Could one have the "Hound of the Khadi" advantage without being part of the City Guard?
Mekham * Dahabi * House Menjari * Diplomat * Princess * Naive * Gorgeous * Pampered * Curious * Lustful * Khadi's Lover
Influence:
City 3 Origin 3 Faction 1 | Reputation: Glorious 2 Infamous 0 | Integrity: What is expected
Typically Carries: Exquisite clothing, jewelry, coin purse

It was not the intent but I'll allow it if you are only increasing one skill. (ie you cannot spend 6 day points to increase a skill to 3 then add leftover day points to night points to buy a second skill)
What about on origin - if you wanted to aid your origin and buy the advantage could you spend 3 day to assist and X night to buy advantage? Or can you not use day/night points for the advantage?
I'll allow mixing points for generating Faction/Origin Points.

You cannot buy Advantages with the Day/Night points. You just receive the benefit of not having to pay the XP penalty when/if you do buy the Advantage.

Is there any benefit to aiding a faction twice with points (as in any bonus for the player)? Or is it just 'they do better'

Is it on purpose that the cost Origin/Faction points does not scale (as opposed to skills)? As is, you could for example reach rank 5 in a Faction by spending 12 points.

The Dahabi discount to the Ally advantage applies to any instance of the Advantage. I'd allow taking Majdala as an ally given the circumstances - she'd be 4 Influence and 1 Devotion so 6XP if paying the post creation penalty, 4XP if that was waived.
2) Could the Khadi be considered an origin or faction of any sort for Soraya to support?
Not really.
3) Could one have the "Hound of the Khadi" advantage without being part of the City Guard?
Nope.

Fluff wise - 'they do better'. Mechanical wise you would be able to buy two advantages without post-creation penalty.

Advancing Origin/Faction does not increase your rank within it. It just benefits their position within the city. The only mechanical benefit is eliminating the XP penalty on one advantage per point.
