After a very quick, but refreshing shower and a small amount of cheap perfume, Faruq felt ready for another day, leaving his home again with his medicinal supplies and a bucket. This time, however, instead of water he carried it empty. A short stop at the market later, he had it filled with relatively cheap, but substantial foods - beans, cucumber, some onions, some three melons, and a piece of dried meat.

With calm but measured steps, he made his way to the Khesir Quarter. He always found it curious that this part of the city, though considerably more miserable than even the Maze, was much easier to walk through - in terms of the actual way you had to follow at least. Seeing the many diseased people, many people with their ribs showing through their skin... that wasn't easy at all, of course.

You get used to it, he could hear in his head. He had heard the mantra a number of times. It was true, in a way. A cynical, violent truth.

He remembers what he had head the guards saying the previous evening. You can't solve poverty by patrolling. He knew neither could it be done by offering food and whatever healing he could. He knew he could do little for many of those slowly being consumed by a variety of diseases. That, in fact, was one area in which he wished he had received more training from his mother back then - but of course she would've kept him from the worst of what she saw at the time. Still... it was something to work on.

He felt some anger burn up inside him. How could you help? Not make the poor get through another day, but actually... solve it? It was a horrible question, one that kept pegging at his soul from time to time.

He shook his head as he neared the area where he had decided to settle in for the first part of the morning. If helping others get through the day was what he could do... he would do at least that.

He set a towel on the ground, placed the bucket besides it, sat down with his legs crossed and took his medical supplies, placing them in front of him. Again, he didn't think he'd have to actually advertise his free services before some people would draw closer to ask for them.

EDIT: For the sake of survival, let's say Faruq has had enough common sense to leave home with only 15 pool - 10 of which were spent in food, more or less.

The man was not known for being especially charming, but his simple gestures and his humble, respectful demeanor would probably indicate his intentions well enough to all but the most hardened souls...

Seeing not as many seemed to approach as when he shows up to help elsewhere, he fishes some of the fruits and vegetables out of the bucket and sets them in front of him in the towel.

Reluctantly, he speaks up a bit. "Those who've started the day on an empty stomach, please come and serve yourselves. Just, please, keep some, but leave some so that others may have their days started as well."

Then, patting the case with tweezers, gauze and other simple tools, he adds. "Those in pain or not feeling right... I can't guarantee anything, but I'll also do my best to help."

He repeats that a couple times, then looks around again.

A wretched figure, so beset by hunger and perhaps disease that their exact gender is unclear, crawls towards Faruq on a leg that seems to have once broken and never properly set.

"Water... sidi... do you have water?"

Looking up at the poor... 'person' is all he manages to think, Faruq nods with a heavy heart, but a gentle expression. He does his best to keep his face straight, not wincing or making any comments despite their state.

Treating all as actual people was a hard lesson, but one his difficult times had taught him well.

"I... I think I have some with me", he said, going through a bag on him for a moment, then fishing out a bottle filed with water - his own bottle, most likely. But that person clearly looked like they needed it more than he did right now.

"Do you have a jug or a cup, my good friend?", he said, holding the bottle.

He nods in understanding, looks around his other belongings. Finding nothing, he sets the whole bottle in front of him, then gets one of the melons from the bucket, grabs a knife at his belt, cracks the melon's rind, cuts a neat slice off and sets it in front of him along with the water bottle.

"Here. Take as many sips as you need - and eat this. The melon will help with the thirst as well", he says, nodding gently at the person.

The wretch was already chugging the bottle of water before Faruq had even taken out the melon. Pausing only to shove fruit in its face before returning to drinking.
