The dog seemed hesitant but more likely from the overwhelming mix of scents arising from below than from outright fear. Aydi judged that, if coaxed, his 'brother' would likely follow. Though it remained unknown if he would move more silently without the accompaniment.

Aydi made the decision. "I go, you run home and alert the neighbours." Not that he expected the dog to understand his intention, but he hoped the instinct would make him do exactly that. He ruffled the shepherd's head and started slipping in.

It was amazing how quickly the temperature dropped from the burning eye of Shilah above to the damp and cool sewers below. Though the chill on Aydi's spine was likely more than just physical. The smell was unpleasant but not unbearable... at least this shallowly in.

Fear of being discovered by whatever lurked here dampened Aydi's focus; however, he succeeded at not disturbing the soundscape, and probably also smellscape of the sewers.

He blinked away the initial blurriness of vision.

Now that he got a bit adjusted to the scarcity of light, he could notice more, his forensic senses turning on.

With keen eyes he was able to discern a few sets of tracks in the muck and mire... but only one set that was recent. On closer examination it did seem to match the boots his father favored - old and worn with a hole in the left heel but he still refused to get new ones even with Aydi offering to buy them.

From all appearances it seems his father came this way alone and under his own power.

Now it was a matter of finding him in the branching, twisting sewers.

(Hunting/Perception (Tracking) to follow the trail, we'll say TN10 with that good of an investigation)

A small relief, but another worry soon mired it. So it seemed father was well enough to go down and walk. But what was he doing down here? Aydi had a faint idea, but shouldn't he have been told? Was his father distrusting him so much? Or was it that the addling of his mind had turned rapidly worse recently, and he didn't know what he was doing? The Sewers were a very dangerous place, especially for an old and ailing man like him!

Aydi followed the familiar footprints, his ears tuned to background noises so that he wouldn't be ambushed by... something.

It felt like he traveled for miles, through many twists and turns, but the distance was likely his mind playing tricks on him. Though his father had a head start Aydi was solidly on his trail and much swifter in his youth. After perhaps half an hour, though it felt like many more, he spotted a figure shuffling on in the darkness ahead.

His heart bounced and he wanted to exclaim the call for his father but it was a perilous place so he decided to close the distance before revealing his presence. How his father had got this far without alerting anything that lived here was a mystery.
