The desert around Medinaat al-Salaam is more varied than most would expect on first glance. While blasted dunes of burning sand make up much of it, true, around the great Nahr'umar the land is lush and fertile and small farming communities, and the rare wealthy estate, survive and sometimes thrive.

Further out the shifting sands reveal, and consume, a diverse collection of oases as well as ruins of ancient empires and kingdoms long destroyed by Shilah's wrath. Nomadic tribes and Ra'Shari caravans wander these wastes moving from oasis to oasis trading, or raiding, when their paths cross to aid their survival.

On the outskirts of the city always sits one Ra'Shari caravan. Which caravan varies from season to season, sometimes week to week, but one always waits and watches.
