To thank Shilah for her mercy during these short days the devout often undertake a fast in her honor. Many fast from dawn until dusk, a minor sacrifice especially in these shortened days, while others will seek to fast on nothing but water, and even that sparingly, for the entire three days of the festival.

Of course others still will wear the airs of piety where others can see while availing themselves as they wish in private....

Choose one of the following approaches if participating in the fast:

A Minor Sacrifice:

Make a Meditation (Fasting)/Stamina roll vs TN10.

Success earns 1 Day Point, failure adds +2 to the TN of all rolls until you have eaten (LA at the earliest).

Characters with Bad Health, Large, or Touched by the Realm of the Hungry Dead add +5 to the TN of this roll. Characters with Ascetic reduce the TN by 5.

A Major Sacrifice:

Make a Meditation (Fasting)/Stamina roll vs TN15.

Success and each successful raise earns 1 Day Point, failure gains the Fasting condition and adds +2 to the TN of all rolls per failed raise until you have eaten. (LM of D3 at the earliest)

Characters with Bad Health, Large, or Touched by Realm of the Hungry Dead add +5 to the TN of this roll. Characters with Ascetic reduce the TN by 5.

A False Sacrifice:

Make a Sincerity (Deceit)/Awareness roll TN15 and a Investigation (Notice)/Perception roll TN10.

If you pass both rolls gain 1 Day Point for every 2 raises (cumulative) called between both rolls. If you fail Sincerity you receive no benefit nor penalty. If you pass Sincerity but fail Investigation you gain +0.1 Infamous Reputation and an addition +0.1 for each called raise.

Characters with Can't Lie or Idealistic cannot take this option. Characters with Disbeliever add +5 to the TN of their Sincerity roll. Characters with Wary reduce the TN of the Investigation roll by 5.

Magic may only apply to A False Sacrifice and subtle casting is required to avoid repercussions.

Qara observed the strange custom alongside her husband's family, though only deigned to fast until sunset. What a weird thing to do.

As a native, al-Haddar had had to go through the fast each year for decades so he was used to it.

Of course, not being the most devout, it's not to say he respected it perfectly every year.

But still, years of half-assing is better than no experience at all.

Asher made lip service to the Fasting, for the purpose of keeping up appearances, still he was fooling noone.

Qasim was not a religious man in the slightest but it made a good impression to many of the city if one was at least observed following the traditions. Qasim was nothing if fastidious about keeping up appearances.
